Living in Victorville, California
Although thought by many to be the oldest established place in the high desert, Victorville is actually slighly younger than Hesperia. However, Victorville experienced more commercial growth earlier than Hesperia and still today contains most of the areas shopping. Hesperia is finally catching up with hotels and shopping of it's own.

The current 2005 population of Victorville is at about 80,000 and rising quickly. Home prices in Victorville are one of the lowest in the High Desert, only Adelanto is lower. Even the desert town of Phelan, which used to be one of the cheapest areas of the high desert, has a higher average home price than Victorville. Victorville has the highest crime of any high desert city and the most gang activity. Victorville sits at about 2900 feet elevation and experiences hot summers and mild winters with an average of a few inches of snow per year.

There is no city in the high desert with more shopping opportunities than Victorville. Victorville is where all the major stores of the high desert are located. If your looking for shopping, stores, and restaurants, an ideal location to live would be near the Mall of Victor Valley. Homes in these neighboorhoods typically run $400,000+. Many of these homes are newer and include sidewalks and nice paved roads.
Nearby communities
Spring Valley Lake is the most expensive community in the high desert and is located in eastern Victorville near Victor Valley College. Adelanto is located just west of Victorville and is the most affordable community in the high desert. Just a few years ago Adelanto was a run-down city with rampant crime, drug use, and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Nobody wanted to live in Adelanto. This is changing now with the introduction of housing tracts and prices have reached an incredible average of about $250,000.
