Driving Directions
Jenks Lake parking off Hwy 38, southeast of Big Bear Lake
Route
Hike up toward poopout hill, then enter the wilderness. At two signed junctions stay to the right. The first leads to Lost Creek which is flowing very nice this year, the second to Dry Lake on the left forks. A third junction leads to Dollar Lake on the left, stay to the right and head up to Dollar Lake Saddle. Follow the sign to the summit of San Gorgonio.
Details
Still patches of snow near the summit at the end of August 2005. Still a few patches on Baldy now too and in Coldwater Canyon. Hiking with 3 others. Sit around and wait time was about an hour in total. Summit at 11:28am, start at 7:00am. Leave summit at 1:10pm, back at car at 5:10pm. Leave Hesperia just after 5:00am to head to trailhead. Free adventure pass day today and we made use of it! Sunburned hand from summit. Nice weather.
Notes about this hike report
Wore trail running shoes. Were much better than hiking boots on the joints, much lighter too and quicker.
