We planned to hike up Pine Mountain, to Dawson Peak to Mt. Baldy, but we got started about 3pm and Jerry had to be back to Phelan before dark so we only went to Pine Mountain. The trail is cool because there are no large switchbacks and pretty much you hike straight up the mountain, of course this make it a little steeper. So we get up there and you can see all the smoke from the darn Sequoia fire and this fire out past Cucamonga Peak somewhere, so the view wasn't so hot, but it was still cool. The trail ain't no walking path so tread lightly or wear boots or some BS like that. If you're here 'cause you read the note I left in the can on Pine Mtn then you rock. YEAH!! Then we come back down and there's these campers out there PAST GUFFY, and we're like how'd you guys get out here. Duh, the gate is now open and it wasn't when we showed up & that would have saved us about 4 RT miles and we could have made Baldy with no problem from the dark. So Bummer. But still the level walk from the Guffy to the trailhead is nice. The time back down would have been faster, but we spent too much time gettin' high sniffing Jeffery Pine bark. |
