From Hesperia, Take I-15 south. Continue on I-15 after the I-215 fork. Exit at Sierra Ave. Make a right at the stop sign and head towards Lytle Creek. You are now on Lytle Creek Road. Stay on this road for approximately 1.5 miles until you get to the gated forest road on your left. The gate is generally closed, although it is opened sometimes. Park here with a National Forest Adventure Pass. |

Ride up the road as far as you want. We road up about 6.5 miles and then turned around. If you continue, the Joe Elliot tree, the largest sugar pine, is fallen in the campground just off the main road. It's easy to see. The Joe Elliot tree is about 13 miles up the road from Lytle Creek Road. |

It was too hot to be riding out here on this day. The climb up is kind of just long and dull. We turned around right after the forest started though; it probably would have been a better ride after that. I'm not too sure about the date I have listed. I just guessed at it about 6 months later. A lot of fun coming back down. |

Desert scrub for the first 6 miles or so. Then there are incense cedars, white firs, sugar pines, giant sequoias. |

|
The radio tower is at 5630 feet. Joe Elliot tree memorial is at about 5780 feet. The peak elevation quoted above is where we stopped which was just about where trees started appearing, just over the top of a hill. |
