About the name Big Bear...
Big Bear is so named due to the large abundance of Grizzly bears that once roamed the San Bernardino Mountians. The volatile Grizzly's have all been removed. What remains are the smaller, less aggressive and more predictable black bears which can have a black, brown, or gray color. Still, bears are a fairly uncommon sight for the avearge Big Bear visitor.
